The Mission Strategy

The mission strategy of the Diocese of North Carolina is a grassroots, organic plan that invites every member of the Diocese to be a part of it.

The mission strategy is not a starting point; rather, it is built upon the work done throughout the diocese over the course of years. It is not a first step; it is our next step on our collective journey to Becoming Beloved Community.

It is built and focused on the five diocesan mission priorities:

    • Racial Reckoning, Justice & Healing
    • Congregational Vitality
    • Collaboration & New Communities
    • Formation
    • Creation Care

There is a great deal to the mission strategy, but don’t get overwhelmed. The goal has never been, nor will it ever be about doing it all. Every person has a contribution to make, and every contribution, whether big or small, takes us one step closer to Becoming Beloved Community. So as you go deeper in these pages, look at how your work of your church is reflected in the mission priorities or where you dream you might go. It is about finding the place or places calling to you. You just have to find that one thing God is calling you to do, and start there.

Explore the theology

As you enjoy all you'll find as you dig into the links, let your exploration of the mission strategy be a source of inspiration and excitement. Let it energize you.

Because while the diocesan goals set for each priority will take us closer to what we hope to accomplish, they cannot and do not encompass all the possible ways of engaging in this work and responding to this call. We need your gifts. We need your ideas. We need you.

GET STARTED: BUILD YOUR SNAPSHOT:

If you’re not sure where to start, start with you. Have a conversation with your congregation and build a snapshot of where you are now. What work are you doing? What ministries do you offer? Of what partnerships are you a part? What are the strengths and characteristics of your congregation in which you take pride? What did you have to lay down during the pandemic that you miss? Is it ready to come back? Is anything ready to be let go? Of what do you dream?

Once you do that, start exploring the mission strategy and see where your work and dreams are reflected. If you don’t see them in the goals, look to the purpose statements. That is what each priority is ultimately working to accomplish, and that is where we need your creativity, ingenuity and ideas.

TAKE IT ALL IN

If you want to see the goals and strategies all at once, enjoy this summary first shared in August 2021. If there is a particular priority area that interests you, you’ll find all the information related to that in the links above.

To help you keep track of all the information in this video, this mission strategy goal summary provides the goals and strategies (along with some examples of work already happening) shared in the video. NOTE: The mission strategy summary has been updated since the creation of this video.
