Special Convention - March 5, 2022

On March 5, 2022, clergy and elected delegates gathered in person at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem for a Special Convention to launch the Mission Strategy and celebrate the work happening around the Diocese.

MISSION STRATEGY

Between the November 2021 and March 2022 Convention gatherings, congregations were encouraged to get to know the work already happening in their parishes and missions.

There is still time to build a snapshot! As you build your snapshot, take a look at the mission priorities - see yourself in them, because you are there. Celebrate that, and dream of where you might like to go next. You don't have to do it all - just find those one or two places God is calling you to be.

PRE-CONVENTION PROGRAM

"What Do Our Actions Say About Our Faith?"

On the evening before Convention, Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m., the Diocese hosted an enlightened conversation about faith and courage with Bree Newsome Bass and Gina Newsome Duncan, M.D., who joined us digitally.
Dr. Gina Newsome Duncan and Bree Newsome Bass are sisters who consider their faith to be a major part of their work. As a psychiatrist, Duncan works at the intersection of faith and healing and as an artist and activist; Bass cites her faith as her motivation in tackling issues such as race, poverty and human rights. Together they will speak on the urgent need to apply our faith to daily actions and recognize how God continues to work present-day miracles even in times of crisis.

Bass is widely known for her removal of the Confederate battle flag from the South Carolina capitol building in protest of systemic racism. Duncan is a member of St. Michael and All Angels, Charlotte.
