Our Vision, Mission and Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
OUR VISION
Our vision as a diocese is to be a community of disciples
committed to following Jesus Christ into the dream of God for us and for all
creation, in Becoming Beloved Community.
OUR MISSION
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Diocese of North Carolina seeks to live God’s dream by making disciples and making a difference. We do so by practicing The Way of Love and building joyful congregations and other communities of faith into God’s beloved community, centered on the Gospel, in the communion of The Episcopal Church. We go forth to offer God’s reconciling love to all persons, with special concern for the unchurched, young people and those on the margins of society.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
A community can be truly beloved only when every member of that community is welcome and valued. The Diocese of North Carolina believes in our baptismal covenant and its call to seek and serve Christ in all persons and respect the rights and dignity of every human being. We are committed to living into that covenant through our actions, whether in the form of reckoning with our racial history and making amends for wrongs; creating pathways to invite and celebrate diversity at all levels of church life; ensuring our actions work to create opportunities for equity and leadership development; and creating an environment across the church of genuine welcome and inclusion, where every person and voice is recognized, valued and honored as a child of God.
