Listening for Truth, Praying for Healing
Thank you for responding to Bishop Sam and Bishop Anne’s invitation to take part in a diocesan listening circle around experiences of sexual harassment, misconduct and violence in the Church.
You may be wondering if this is something you would like to do: Will it be healing? Will it be safe? What will the listening circles be like? How can I best discern if I’d like to offer my story or come to a circle to support those telling their stories?
We would like to assure you from the start that the bishops, and the pastoral staff whom they have charged with creating this process, have expended great time and energy to make these circles as safe and secure as possible. They will not be places for argument, but for people to witness bravely to painful experience and its effects on their lives, to be listened to with all compassion and respect, and to be heard by the bishops. What healing comes will come from being able to speak the truth of your experience, and being heard in a context of prayer and compassion before God.
