Meet St. David’s, Laurinburg
Spirituality in Action 2017
By St. David’s, Laurinburg
As Bishop Sam Rodman and Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple make their weekly Sunday visitations, we invite you to join them in meeting the churches that make our Diocese special.
“Our Church family IS our family: St. David’s has our back. They were not only concerned about my mother-in-law in her Alzheimer’s state of isolation, but were genuinely concerned about us… her caregivers. They visited, prayed with us, brought communion – ‘soul food’ – as well as ‘other’ food…and, a few flowers to brighten our day! Our vicar, the Rev. Steven Teague, personally related to us as he recently experienced the ravaging of Alzheimer’s with his own mother-in-law. And, when our Jackie passed – a member of St. David’s for 35 plus years – the service, inspired by the Holy Spirit, was truly a beautiful celebration of Jackie’s life.” – Melissa Williamson, Parishioner of St. David’s, September 2017
“What a terrific way to kick off our school year – another Back to School Breakfast – a delicious feast provided by the people of St.David’s Episcopal Church. Covington Street Elementary School is thankful, too, for the book bags, school supplies, clothing for emergencies and donation of discretionary cash for our children. We appreciate your door prize morale boosts and the ambiance of your parish hall. We’re grateful to be neighbors and friends with you, St. David’s!” – Amy Sloop, Principal, Covington Street School, September 2017
St. David’s, Laurinburg, is a holy, precious space filled with the spirit of God and loving people who are “recharged” each Sunday by our transformative discussions, worship and music. We’re busily spreading GOOD NEWS and JOYFUL NOISE(S)…serving the Lord in myriad ways. Since January we’ve been inspired by the Rev. Dr. Steven Teague, a person with an ecumenical background and 44 years of ministry experience – a “human soul doctor”! In our adult education classes we’ve recently reviewed our Book of Common Prayer – a treasure trove of worship and prayer with information on its use – an invaluable resource at our fingertips. We’ve studied and employed both Gospel-Based Discipleship and Lectio Divina: Listening, Meditating, Prayer and Contemplation as methods for Bible Study both individually and corporately. In order to “keep on keepin’ on” building our relationship with our Lord Jesus, we pay attention to what He’s telling us: we praise Him, thank Him and listen for His word to manifest itself in our hearts and minds. We then move forward serving Him as He directs. We are transformed in the process…Hallelujah!
We strive to carry out our mission: “to know Christ and make Him known by worshipping God, living God’s word, welcoming the stranger and reaching out to those in need.” We’re delighted that our new Bishop, The Rev. Samuel Rodman, will be joining us on Sunday, September 17, 2017. A joy-filled service with praise, worship and song is “on tap”…. We invite YOU to join this most special occasion!
