The Episcopal Farmworker Ministry is receiving donations of long-sleeve shirts to help protect North Carolina tobacco workers from Green Tobacco Illness.
Green Tobacco Illness is the result of acute nicotine poisoning. Workers' clothing becomes saturated with tobacco juices, which are then absorbed through the skin. Workers who gather the tobacco leaves under their arms as they harvest them face the most acute risk of illness.
During the entire month of April, all BB&T branches in Cary, NC, will collect the shirts. Each of the Cary BB&T branches will have a box for the public to drop off shirts. If a large volume is to be donated, please call (919) 467-3590 to make arrangements for pick up.
